Running and playing can prevent myopia

Twenty years ago, the prevalence of myopia, known as ‘myoya’, was 10-20 percent. Currently, it has increased to 90 percent. Although maphobia is caused by genetic factors, the main reason is the increasing use of electronic devices.

When using electronic devices like laptop, mobile, computer, tablet for more than three hours continuously, many problems occur in the eyes. This is common to all children, teenagers and adults, and

the severity of the problems can vary depending on how far we use it, whether it has contrast, and whether we use a screen that filters out UV light.

Continuous use of mobile phones can cause symptoms such as headache, dizziness, double vision, difficulty in focusing, blurred vision, increased pressure on the eye muscles and eye strain. This is called ‘Digital Drain Syndrome’. This is ‘Computer Vision Syndrome’ which refers to eye disorders caused by constant computer use.

The violet light emitted from computers can cause vision damage called ‘macular degeneration’ in the macula in the center of the eye which creates vision.

Looking at electronic devices without blinking for more than three hours at a time can dry out the eyes without producing enough tears. As a result, when you return home in the evening after working on the computer all day, the headlights of oncoming vehicles are brighter than normal.

Normally, blink your eyes 15 times per minute. Glasses that do not affect the eyes of violet light can be used. A screen that blocks UV light can be placed over the computer screen.

Instead of looking at the screen continuously, look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. Drops can be used for dry eyes. Keeping the computer screen slightly lower than directly in front of the eyes and viewing the screen in low light can be beneficial.

Myopia is rare in children who run and play outside. However, many studies have confirmed that its severity is low.

Teaching children how to safely use mobile phones only at certain times, eating vegetables and fruits that are high in antioxidants, can prevent depression.
